Timothy McDonald is a partner of Ford, Walker, Haggerty & Behar. He is a trial lawyer who focuses on all types of automobile and homeowner claims. He also handles construction defect, insurance bad faith and premises liability cases. He represents insurance companies and self-insureds in California and nationally.

Mr. McDonald has completed more than 50 jury trials in California courts and has arbitrated or mediated more than 800 cases. Recently he tried an admitted liability auto case that resulted not only in a unanimous defense verdict based upon the defense position of fraudulent medical treatment, but also in the imposition of defense attorney fees against the plaintiff’s attorney for the prosecution of a frivolous lawsuit. In another recent case, plaintiff alleged that following a fairly significant automobile accident he underwent shoulder surgery; needed another shoulder surgery; and needed neck surgery, and asked the jury for a figure in excess of $500,000. The jury returned a verdict of $85,000 based upon the argument that the accident was only one cause for the shoulder surgery received, and not a cause at all for a future shoulder and neck surgery.

Mr. McDonald has been with Ford, Walker, Haggerty & Behar since its founding in 1991. He began his legal career with the predecessor firm, Shield & Smith.

He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1986. He is admitted to practice in all California state and federal courts. He is a member of ABOTA, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel.

Mr. McDonald received his J.D. in 1986 from the University of San Diego. He earned his B.A. in economics from Fairfield University in Connecticut in 1980 prior to completing two years of graduate study in economics and philosophy at Georgetown University.

Mr. McDonald was born in New Jersey and resides in San Pedro with his wife Elizabeth. They have three children, two of whom are currently attending school at U.C. Santa Cruz and U.C. Santa Barbara.
